This is an older Habitat home whose owner would like help with her property. This volunteer activity is focused on cleaning up the exterior. We will be power washing/cleaning siding and decking, cleaning out the gutters, staining the deck and planting shrubs.
DURING YOUR WORKDAY:
-
Please arrive at the house by 8:15 a.m.! At that time, we will go over basic safety and construction methods critical for the day. Construction begins at 8:30 a.m. DO NOT BE LATE.
-
Site location: 15437 W. Patrick Henry Road, Montpelier, VA 23192 (Please look for house number 15431, which is the house directly in front of our lot. We share a driveway. PLEASE DO NOT TURN AROUND IN THEIR LOT. We have a habitat arrow sign at the road.)
-
Please wear appropriate clothing to the worksite. Baggy clothes, open toe-shoes, or jewelry could create safety hazards on a construction site. Keep the weather in mind! Rain will make the site muddy, so plan accordingly.
-
Please eat a good breakfast before coming out to work with us. We want you to be ready for the day!
-
If the work days go into the afternoon, please bring a packed lunch. There will be a 30-minute break for lunch usually around 11:30 a.m.
-
Water and snacks are highly recommended.
-
Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended.
-
Please do not use your cell phones on the site, unless there is an emergency. Volunteering on an active construction site requires everyone’s full attention!
-
We provide safety and protective equipment. If you have work gloves that you like to use and fit well, we suggest bringing them.
-
We work in all weather conditions to get our project done, so come prepared!
- Volunteers should be able to lift at least 25 pounds and stand for the majority of the workday.
PARKING:
- Please park in the driveway, so as not to block the neighbor or mess up Ali’s yard
COVID:
-
If you are not feeling well, have a fever, or have been exposed to COVID please stay home, and do not come and volunteer. We can always reschedule you!
CANCELLATIONS:
-
Habitat reserves the right to cancel based on weather, or lack of work on a construction site. At times, there may also be changes in location in order to be the most productive in providing affordable housing in the community.
