DURING YOUR WORKDAY:

Arrive at our construction site by 8:15 a.m. and we will go over basic safety and construction methods critical for the day. Construction begins at 8:30 a.m. and could last until 3:30 p.m. Please do not be late. No one will be able to come and go during the day.

SITE LOCATION:Our two Doswell Properties are located at 17044 North Telegraph Rd Doswell, VA 23047

o   Please wear appropriate clothing to the worksite. No open-toe shoes, baggy clothes, or jewelry. Keep the weather in mind; we work in all weather conditions. Rain will make the site muddy, so plan accordingly.

o   Lunch is not provided, so bring a packed lunch. There will be a 30-minute break for lunch usually around 11:30 a.m.  Do not leave the worksite during this time.

o   Water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended.

o   Please do not use your cell phones on the site, unless there is an emergency. Volunteering on an active construction site requires everyone’s full attention!

o   We suggest you bring your own work gloves; however, some are available on-site. Other safety and protective equipment will be provided, as needed.

o   Volunteers should be able to lift at least 25 pounds and stand for the majority of the workday.

o   Volunteers must be 16 or older to participate. Minors must have a guardian present.

PARKING: There is limited driveway and on-street parking. Do not block driveways and make sure cars can get through. There is a gravel lot at the corner of North Telegraph Road and Verdon.

SAFETY: Please read our safety policy online, in order to be prepared to work on an active construction site. There will be a safety meeting before work begins. If you are not feeling well, have a fever, or have been exposed to COVID please stay home, and do not come and volunteer.

CANCELLATIONS & CHANGES: Habitat reserves the right to cancel based on weather, or lack of work on a construction site. At times, there may also be changes in location in order to be the most productive in providing affordable housing in the community.

BACKGROUND CHECKS: HKWHFH reserves the right to conduct background checks—including criminal, credit, DMV, and sex offender registry checks—on applicants, employees, board and staff members, key volunteers, and anyone who may have unsupervised contact with children, the elderly, or persons with disabilities.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION:
Thank you for volunteering with Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity. Your time, energy, and talent make a meaningful difference for local families working toward safe, affordable homeownership.

If your experience on the build site has inspired you, we invite you to take the next step and become a financial supporter of our mission. We intentionally sell our homes well below market value to ensure that hardworking, lower-income families can afford their mortgage payments and achieve long-term housing stability.

Keeping homes affordable requires more than volunteer labor. Every home we build and every repair we complete depends on generous financial contributions from individuals, businesses, and community partners. Your donation helps cover the cost of building materials, critical repairs, and construction expenses that make safe, affordable housing possible.

Your gift can have a direct impact

  • $25 can provide nails/screws for the construction of a new home
  • $50 can provide exterior doorknobs for a family's home.
  • $100 can cover the construction cost of one square foot of a new Habitat home.
  • $250 can provide interior paint for a home under construction.

Please consider making a tax-deductible gift today. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps us build more homes, complete more repairs, and serve more families in our community.

Lot 1: (Built in 2022)

Lot 2: Omar & Iris

Omar & Iris have lived and worked in Hanover County for more than four years while raising their two daughters. Both parents work full-time and have worked hard to provide for their family, but rising housing, food, and medical costs have made it difficult to save for a traditional home purchase. Despite these challenges, including living in overcrowded conditions, their goal has always been to create a safe and stable home for their children. Through Habitat, that dream is becoming a reality. Homeownership will provide their family with greater financial stability, peace of mind, and the opportunity to build a lasting foundation for their daughters' future. They are excited to create a place to call their own and begin building a legacy for generations to come.

Lot 3: Jessica & Family (bio)

For Jessica Lloyd, a lifelong Hanover County resident and devoted single mother of three—Kaylyn, Ethan, and baby Jayce—the journey to homeownership has been one of faith, perseverance, and love. After years of thinking Habitat homeownership was out of reach, Jessica took a leap of faith and applied in May 2024; now she’s preparing to purchase her first home through Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity. Balancing full-time work, motherhood, and caring for her own mother, Jessica has shown remarkable resilience, overcoming a difficult childhood and financial challenges to build a better future. Deeply rooted in her community, she’s eager to give back by volunteering and helping other families achieve their dreams. For Jessica and her family, homeownership represents breaking generational cycles and creating lasting stability—a forever home filled with love, safety, and hope.
